The first race weekend of the Formula One season was greeted with a riot in Bahrain.
More than a hundred protesters clashed with police last night as they attempted to take advantage of Formula One's presence to highlight the imprisonment of a Muslim cleric.
Tear gas was fired into the crowd on the outskirts of the Bahraini capital Manama by riot police and soldiers. A handful of injuries were reported. Formula One's season-opener takes place in Bahrain for the first time this year while its traditional home, Melbourne, is preparing to host the Commonwealth Games
