Although / even though / though / however

You can use these words to show contrast between two clauses or sentences. Though is used more in spoken English than in written. You can use although, even though and though at the beginning of a sentence or clause that has a verb.
Notice where the commas go:

Although/Even though/Though everyone played well, we lost the game.

We lost the game, although/even though/though everyone played well.

You cannot use even on it’s own at the beginning of a sentence or clause instead of although, even though, although: even everyone played well, we lost the game = incorrect.

Although and though can also mean but, like however, which is more formal. They cannot all go in the same place in a sentence.

Notice where the commas go:

Everyone played well. However, we still lost the game.

We still lost the game, however. Everyone played well.

It should not be forgotten, however, that we still lost the game.

Everyone played well, although/though we still lost the game.

Everyone played well. We still lost the game, though.

Note that you cannot use however in a sentence that begins with although/though/even though

Although everyone played well, however, we still lost the game = incorrect
